What Are NGRs Load Banks and Braking Resistors?

RARA's high power resistor range covers three distinct product categories — load banks (RLB), neutral grounding resistors (NGR), and dynamic braking resistors (DBR) — each engineered for a specific role in industrial power system management. Unlike standard component resistors, these are customer-designed units built to project specifications and rated to meet or exceed all relevant industry standards.

Load banks are used to simulate an electrical load on a generator or power source during testing, commissioning, and maintenance — without connecting the actual facility load. RARA's RLB series handles up to 3000kW, making it suitable for utility-scale generator verification and data center UPS testing.

Neutral grounding resistors limit fault current in medium-voltage power systems, protecting equipment and personnel when a ground fault occurs. Dynamic braking resistors dissipate the kinetic energy of large motors and drives during rapid deceleration, preventing DC bus overvoltage in variable frequency drives.
